Tessile Sostenibile

Sustainable Textile

How to know if a fabric is eco-sustainable ?

The Certifications

To ensure that a fabric is actually sustainable, there are certifications that require compliance with various standards for protecting the environment, which provide truthful and transparent information on the products and which help consumers to choose materials capable of respecting the planet and workers' rights.

  • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification is one of the main certification bodies worldwide for the production of organic fibres. It guarantees that the cotton comes from organic cultivation, that no harmful chemicals are used and that all phases of the production process respect certain sustainability standards.
  • The Global Recycle Standard is another certification that ensures that what is purchased contains recycled materials, tracks the production process, ensures that restrictions on chemical products are applied and that environmental and social rules are respected throughout the entire production chain.
  • OEKO-TEX is a safety standard whose main purpose is to ensure that products are free of harmful substances and that the EU regulation limiting the toxicity of chemicals and heavy metals in all consumer products is followed.
  • The Organic Content Standard (OCS) verifies the presence and quantity of organic material in a final product.
  • The FAIRTRADE brand, on the other hand, is an international certification system that guarantees respect for the rights of producers and workers in countries such as Asia, Africa and Latin America. Its aim is to protect and establish a fair and stable price for producers from the South and East of the world and provides an additional margin to invest in social and health projects for communities and respect for local cultures.
  • Finally, the EU ecolabel promotes the reuse of waste water, the use of more environmentally friendly dyes and the reduction of waste through recycling.
